The law firm of Dennis P. Block and Associates specializes in the eviction of tenants. The firm started in 1976 and is the leading eviction law firm in tenant eviction in the State of California and one of the busiest nationwide. To date, the firm has handled over 150,000 tenant evictions in California. Eviction cases are fast-paced and require the rapid movement and availability of file folder records, including frequent court appearances. Though the firm does not have records management software or file tracking, they were anxious to discover a technology to find missing files.

Find-a-File was implemented to temporarily label eviction files, having a typical 90 day lifetime, with RFID tags on stiff paper placed inside a folder. Once the case is adjudicated, the RFID tags are removed and reused for new folders being originated for new cases. Their host case management system is to lookup case #, which are scanned into the RFID label using the portable RFID scanner. Missing file #'s are entered to the scanner using the virtual keyboard on the scanner to FIND missing files! The firm says that 'Find-a-File' makes them smile every time the scanner beeps!
